For Patients
IV Iron Infusion at NEO – RAPID Program
Iron is essential for many body functions, including energy, brain health, and blood production. An IV iron infusion is a safe and effective way to quickly restore iron levels by delivering iron directly into the bloodstream through a small IV in your arm.
Your healthcare provider may recommend IV iron if you:
Cannot tolerate or absorb iron pills
Need rapid iron correction (for example, before surgery)
Have chronic kidney disease
Are in the second or third trimester of pregnancy with anemia
Cannot receive blood transfusions
IV iron does not contain human blood products.
Who May Need IV Iron?
Most people tolerate IV iron very well. Severe allergic reactions are rare.
Some patients may experience mild, temporary side effects such as headache, muscle or joint aches, flu-like symptoms, nausea, flushing, or changes in blood pressure. You will be closely monitored during and after your infusion.
